YMCA pool project moving ahead on schedule

During a Nevada/Vernon County Chamber of Commerce business after hours event Thursday evening at the Osage Prairie YMCA, director Tedd Maxfield reported that bids are to be solicited soon for the facility's planned pool construction. Bids are currently expected to be opened in late October, with work hopefully beginning in November, Maxfield said. Many youth and adult fall programs are up and running at the YMCA. Signup is under way not for the Ghost Gallup premonition walk and run. Participants need not be members of the YMCA. Teams and individuals are welcome to participate in the event, a 5K fun run or a 2.5K fun walk, slated for Saturday, Oct. 13, at 8 a.m., with sign-in beginning at 7 o'clock. The start and finish line is in front of Daylight Donuts, on the Square in Nevada, and the route follows Washington Street to Highland, then makes a U-turn and follows the same route back. Participants predict how long it will take them to complete the walk or run, and prizes will be awarded to those whose predictions are the closest to actual times.
