Brier, Ray finish NHS softball careers

The Nevada Lady Tigers (8-13) fell 8-0 to McDonald County (21-3) in first round District play. However, the real story, in my opinion, is that seniors Katelyn Brier and Megan Ray played their last softball game for Nevada.

An unknown author said, "Sports do not build character: they reveal it." Softball has revealed two awesome young ladies in Katelyn and Megan. They are the kind of teammates you would want your daughter to have. Katelyn and Megan are kind, encouraging, and positive. They welcomed everyone to the team and educated and supported the younger players.

Katelyn and Megan brought lots to the team athletically as well. Both have tremendous speed and run the bases extremely well. Both are versatile players. Katelyn pitched, played second, third, and shortstop for Nevada this year. Megan played first, second, third, and centerfield for the Tigers.

These young ladies are multi-talented offensively as well. Katelyn is a triple threat as she bunts, slaps, and hits from the left side. Megan began switch-hitting this year and pressures the defense from both sides of the plate.

According to Coach Brandi Thomsen, "It has been a joy to work with Megan and Kate. They are the first group of players who I have been with all four years and I have truly enjoyed watching them grow as players and people. They are wonderful young ladies and have worked very hard their entire high school careers. Both of them want to go on and play softball collegiately and I am excited about their prospects. Any coach would be lucky to have them. I will miss them immensely."

Brier and Ray were the seniors on Nevada's 2007 softball team. And, they are two of the biggest winners I know.
