Horse preview Nov. 11 for MU's online auction
COLUMBIA, Mo. â€" Here's some news straight from the horse's mouth: From now until Nov. 13, you can bid online on nine horses bred and raised at the University of Missouri.
MU's College of Agriculture, Food and Natural Resources Animal Science Division is hosting its first auction where bidders can go online, create an account and place bids on animals.
"It's an online auction," said Marci Jennings, MU equine instructor and extension specialist. "All proceeds from this auction go directly to the horse farm and will be used for both teaching resources and the care of our horses. Both the students and horses will benefit." On the sale bill are six yearlings, two 2-year-olds and one 4-year-old.
All the horses are registered, and their photos and pedigrees are online at http://horses.missouri.edu. Even so, Jennings encourages those interested to stop by for a closer look.
"On Nov. 11, we're having an open barn day so potential buyers can preview the sale horses," she said. "From noon to 4 p.m., they can ask questions, see the horses move and see the students working with them."
To view the horses at the MU Horse Farm, take U.S. Highway 63 to the AC/Grindstone exit. Travel east on New Haven Road for 1/4 mile. The farm is on the right.
