American Legion hosts Thanksgiving dinner
The Nevada American Legion is hosting its annual Thanksgiving Day meal once again Thursday as volunteers prepare to serve 80 to 100 people at the Legion hall.
The dinner has a long history in Nevada and many families have been served over the years. Recently a transplant from Colorado, Jeff Day, has been very generous with his time and money to help make sure the tradition continues.
A spokesperson for the group, who declined to be identified, said that the dinner begins at 11:30 a.m., and continues until either the people stop coming or the food runs out.
Volunteers also will deliver meals to the homebound who are encouraged to let the Legion know of their need.
"I'm sure there are those we don't know about," the spokesperson said. "All they need to do is call us up at (417) 667-9836 and tell us how many meals they need delivered and give their address and phone number."
The dinner consists of turkey or ham, dressing, mashed potatoes, salad, sweet potatoes, corn, green beans, pumpkin (and other) pies and cake.
