Tuesday, December 4, 2007

The Rich Hill Tigers girls varsity team was defeated 39 - 29 and the boys varsity eking out a win 39 - 37 against the Montrose Blue Jays.

The Rich Hill girls stayed down the entire first half leaving the score 10 - 26 at half-time, but rallied in the second half to bring the score within 3 points in the fourth quarter. "We played hard," said varsity coach Joe Boyles, "we made some shots in the second half that we missed in the first."

The 3 point difference grew to 10 as the clock ran out leaving the Tigers with a 2 -3 record for the season.

Senior, Jackie Politte led the tigers in offense with 10 points, followed by sophomore, Laura Drake with 9, freshman, Samantha Hopps with 7, and senior, Asleigh Rapp with 2.

Despite the season standings coach Boyles is optimistic about the Tigers next game against Balard which will take place tonight at Balard.

Boys varsity played a game virtually opposite their lady counterpart's, dominating most of the first half and almost giving the game away in the fourth quarter. Ending the first quarter 11- 6 and third 31-26 the Tigers gave Montrose a chance when they gave up a 2 pointer within the key tying the score up at 31 all with 6:15 left in the fourth.

This was followed by several turnovers and fouls which gave Montrose the chance to keep it close, 37-37 with 1:09 on the clock.

With no support from the referees, the Tigers pulled out the win putting 2 more points on the board before the clock ran out.

"It was our fourth game in 6 days and I think you could tell, Montrose outplayed us," said boys varsity coach Ryan Rapp, "it was ugly, but its a win."

This game keeps the Tiger's perfect record alive at 5-0 for the season.
