A very fortunate Eddie Hassey, 39, Stockton, reported no injuries and minor cosmetic damage done to his 2008, Chevy pickup after hitting the lead engine of a Missouri & Northern Arkansas Railroad train at approximately 4:34 p.m., Jan. 2. Hassey drove into the ladder of the lead engine on a 40-car freight train. He told a Missouri State Highway Patrol officer that he did not see the train. The truck was bounced several feet backwards from the ladder and debris was scattered down the embankment alongside the tracks from the collision. While Hassey was able to drive his vehicle away from the scene, train engineers, only about 5 miles away from Nevada -- their last stop of the day -- had to remain on-site until the scene had been evaluated by a railroad supervisor.
