Tigers rally for strong win at courtwarming game, 50-42
The Nevada Tigers picked up their first conference win of the season beating the McDonald County Mustangs 50-42 Friday night in Wynn Gymnasium.
"This was our best effort since Christmas," John McNeley, Nevada head coach, said.
McNeley said that sophomore Parker Richardson, who scored 15 points Friday night, is becoming more consistent and gave the team quality minutes of play.
Richardson did a good job of guarding McDonald County's Tyler Shaver.
"He's being asked to play at a higher level than he is used to and we knew it would take time for him to adjust," he said.
McNeley said that Richardson did a good job of guarding McDonald County's Tyler Shaver as well as providing a second offensive weapon to take some of the pressure off of Jordan Kerbs.
Nevada got out to an early lead Friday and held it except for 3-1/2 minutes in the first period when the Mustangs led by as much as 12-9.
Richardson's first trey of the game with two minutes left in the period tied it up and three points from Kerbs put Nevada ahead 15-12 to end the period. The Tigers led 23-18 at the half and continued to add to the margin leading by as much as 11 points midway through the final period.
On Tuesday the Tigers face conference rival Carthage for the second time this year in Carthage.
When they played Carthage in the Carthage Invitational in late November McNeley said that they made some mistakes.
"We need to slow the game down and keep it a half-court game," he said.
Jordan Kerbs set the pace for the Tigers with 16 points and Parker Richardson was close on his heels with 15. Dan Lovinger added six points, Brandon Davis four points, David Cavener three points, Trevor Hinkle and Kyle Hughes both scored two points and Chase Domer and Jake Cherry added one point each.
