Lady Tigers fall to Carl Junction in tournament
The Carl Junction Lady Bulldogs easily beat Nevada's Junior Varsity girls 60-24 during Monday's opening game of the 2008 Lady Tiger Classic.
Although Nevada kept the score close for the first period, by the end of the half with the Bulldogs leading 36-12 the final outcome was no longer in doubt. The Bulldogs kept up their scoring increasing their lead to 58-20 by the end of the third period.
The Nevada JV will play at 5 p.m., Wednesday in the consolation round against the Joplin Lady Eagles.
With their first win the number one seeded Bulldogs move on to the second round of play at 6 p.m., Thursday, when they take on the Raymore-Pecular Panthers, who outdistanced the Joplin Lady Eagles 51-40 in the second game of night.
The Lady Tiger Classic continues tonight when the number four seeded Nevada Lady Tigers play the number five seeded Lamar Lady Tigers at 7:30 and number three seeded Carthage Lady Tigers take on the number six seeded Kansas City Southeast Lady Knights.
Tonight also sees the opening game of the ninth Annual Nevada Tiger Basketball Classic when the Nevada Tigers take on the Kansas City Southeast Knights at 6 p.m.
Lee Ann Stone set the pace for the Nevada JV with seven points, followed by Cheyenne Whitson and Daven Smith with five points each, Lauren Klinksick with four, Audrey Daniels with two points and Reba Hurst with one point.
Carl Junction's scoring was led by senior Mannie DeCastro with 14 points, followed by Tesia Lahm with 13 points, Amanda Storm with 10 points, Lindsey Gordon with eight points, Devyn McPherson with six points, Abby Spillane with four points and Jaime Dunaway with two points.
Rachael Norman led Raymore with 15 points followed by Rician Walker with 13 points, Casie Fuller with 12 points, Allie Beck with seven points and Kayla Easton and Ashley Latimer with two points each.
The Joplin Lady Eagles scoring was led by Jessie McMullen with 16 points followed by Jordyn Nolan with 10 points, Liz Stewart with seven points, Taylor Costley, Jessica Hill and May Lee with two points each and Emily Fuller with one point.
