Council to consider gourmet food shop proposal, tourism grants

Tuesday, February 5, 2008

The Nevada City Council will be taking a second look at two ordinances when they meet tonight. One ordinance would waive the building permit fee for the new county jail; the second ordinance would allow a gourmet food store located on, or within one block of the Nevada Square to sell packaged wine and other liquor.

During the Jan 15 council meeting the council postponed action on the ordinance to allow a gourmet food store at the request of councilman Russ Kemm who said he wanted to have four council members who would vote on the issue. When the council considered this same issue during the Nov. 20 meeting it failed to pass, receiving a 2-1 vote with Bill Gillette abstaining. Bill Edmonds and Tim Wells voted yes and Mike Hutchens voted no; Russ Kemm, who proposed the ordinance, was excused.

The council will also be considering an $8.55 million bid from G&G Construction, Carthage, for the city's new wastewater treatment plant.

They will also vote on approving the IMPACT Tourism boards selection for 2008 tourism grants.

Other items on the agenda include a public hearing on Insite Support Services, a settlement agreement with Sprint, a public hearing and consideration of an ordinance to vacate easements and streets in the Klump Subdivision by the Nevada Regional Technical Center, which owns the property, so the property can be replatted.

The council will also be considering the new fee structure at the Frank E. Peters Golf Course and fees at the Walton Family Aquatics Center, as well as an agreement with Challenger Sports Corporation to provide a youth soccer camp in Nevada.

In addition to these items, the council will be considering the final approval of several ordinances including; approval a special use permit for Mega Star Inc. to operate Villa Nevada Trailer Park at 603 E. Atlantic; approval of a zoning change at 818 N. Clay; approval of termination of the city's contract with Adams and Associates for developing a master plan for the city's parks and an ordinance approving the city's applying for federal funding for the city's taxi coupon program.
