Montrose leaves tournament with sweeping victory
Montrose swept the boys and girls championship games Saturday night in the Golden Valley-Vernon County Conference tournament with the Montrose girls beating the Bronaugh Lady Wildcats 64-23 and the Montrose boys upsetting the Hume Hornets 56-44.
In the boys third place game Ballard narrowly beat the Bronaugh Wildcats 46-44.
In the girls championship game Carley Schultz and Skye Klinksick led the Lady Wildcats with eight points, with Klinksick hitting two treys, Kalee Woody, Kelsey Schultz and Katlyn Douglas each added two points and Vanessa Langford scored one point.
The Montrose Lady Jays were led by Megan Eye with 28 points, including two treys, followed by Shelby Bennett with 15 points, Kristin Bellinghouse with eight points, Felicia Foster with seven points and Tasha Lesmeister with six points.
In the boys championship game Trevor Bracher led Montrose with 22 points including three treys, followed by Luke Genger with 14 points, Andy Bellinghaven and Joe Day with seven points each, Tony Engeman with four points and Corey Brownsburger with two points.
Cameron Hinton and Clinton Irwin led the Hume Hornets with 12 points each, followed by Andy Yarick with eight points, Cody Franklin with seven points and Ryan Austin with five points.
In the boys third place game Ballard's Sean Carroll lead his team with 15 points, followed by Jacodo Mead with 13 points, going 9-14 from the charity stripe, Mitchell Jones with eight points, Stewart Mead with three points and Nick Taylor with one point.
Dakota Chrisenberry set the pace for the Bronaugh Wildcats with 15 points including two treys and going 7-20 at the charity stripe, followed by Cameron Bott with 13 points, Nick Judd with nine points, Dean Millman with four points and Caleb Murphy and Scott Farmer with two points each.
