Tuesday, March 11, 2008

Spc. Johnathan Dabbs, 26, of Sheldon, will deploy with the Missouri National Guard's 1175th Military Police Company in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom. In Iraq, Dabbs will serve with his unit as they conduct military police operations and assist with the stabilization of the country.

Soldiers from the 1175th, 1137th and 1138th military police companies will comprise the deploying unit, which recently completed its in-state pre-mobilization training at Camp Clark, near Nevada, Mo. They will continue their training at Fort Dix, N.J., leaving for Iraq sometime in the spring.

This is the first overseas deployment for Dabbs, who said he is looking forward to the mission.

"It's a great chance to gain knowledge of other countries and cultures," he said. "It's also a good opportunity to gain experience."
