Jayhawk-Linn softball sweeps Northeast-Arma 19-11, 20-0

ARMA, Kan. -- Jayhawk-Linn softball opened its season here Thursday with a 19-11, 20-0 sweep of Northeast-Arma in non-league games.
Lyndia Beth came into the first game in relief and didn't allow any earned runs over the final 5 1/3 innings. She allowed one unearned run on two hits while striking out three.
Top hitters in the opener were Jessie McGown and Amanda Black, each three for five, and Kelsey Ligman, who was three for four. Black and Kenzie Sisson each drove in three runs.
The Jayhawks committed six errors, all in the second inning, leading to 10 unearned runs.
The second game lasted just three innings. Kasey Ward was the winning pitcher, allowing just two hits while striking out three. This time, her teammates didn't commit any errors.
McGown, Ligman and Alexis Billingsley each had two hits for the Jayhawks. Billingsley also drove in two runs.
Taylor McGown was two for two with four walks in the opener and 0 for one with three walks in the second. She also reached base when the catcher dropped strike three in her one credited at-bat in the second game, which means she did reach base in all 10 of her plate appearances on the day.
The Jayhawk-Linn varsity will travel to Garnett Tuesday to take on Anderson County.
