City breaks ground on water plant

Wednesday, April 9, 2008
After 10 years of planning and waiting, the city of Nevada held a groundbreaking Tuesday afternoon for its new wastewater treatment plant. The plant, which is part of an estimated $12 million project, to upgrade the city's entire sanitary sewer system, is expected to be completed in about 18 months. Other parts of the project include replacing and lining many of the city's sewer lines to prevent stormwater from entering the system and overwhelming the system; which leads to untreated sewage gushing from manholes, backing up into basements and being discharged into Little Drywood Creek.
