Hume High School baseball won its first game of the 2008 season Monday night with a 10-0 run-rule win over Jasper High School.
Junior Ryan Austin went the distance for the Hornets, recording 11 strikeouts and one walk. Austin retired the first seven batters of the contest before allowing his only walk, which he followed by retiring the last eight batters of the game.
The Hornets' scored only two runs before the fourth inning when they exploded for six runs and put the game out of reach. Hume spread the hitting around fairly evenly with five batters recording an RBI, including a 3-RBI shot by Austin. Cody Franklin reached in all four at bats with one hit, two walks and a hit-by-pitch.
Hume is 1-1 on the season and returns to action April 11 and 12 when it hosts the Hume Invitational Baseball Tournament.
