INDEPENDENCE, Kan. -- Each of Fort Scott's girls' and boys' track teams won 19 medals and four events at the Independence Invitational at Emmot Field here Friday.

Both Tiger teams also finished in second place in team standings. Fort Scott's girls scored 118 points, finishing six behind winner Independence. Both schools were well ahead of the rest of the pack, with third-place Neodesha scoring 65 points.

Labette County won the boys' side of the meet with 108 points. Fort Scott was second with 102 followed by Coffeyville in third place with 94.

In addition to the number of medals and events won, Fort Scott's boys' and girls' teams also each had seven marks that set or tied season-best performances. One example was Tiffnie Bradley in girls' discus, who won her event easily, going 102 feet, 4 inches. It was her first 100-foot effort in competition this season and won by over 20 feet.

Other Fort Scott girls' winners were Ashley Cavin in the 100-meter dash, running a 13.53 in the first instance reported of her competing in this event this season; Elizabeth Meech with a mark of 31 feet, 1 3/4 inches in discus; and Annie Gladbach in javelin with a mark of 110-9 1/2. Meech was over two feet better than the second-place finisher and the only one who got over 30 feet. Gladbach, like Bradley, was the only competitor over 100 feet in her event, winning it by a little over 19 feet.

Cavin also recorded a season-best mark in long jump at 14 feet, 11 inches, which was good for second place. She won a third individual medal with her time of 28.34 in the 200 meters, which was good for fourth place.

Brittany Bingesser had season-best marks with her second-place finishes in each hurdles event. She ran an 18.20 in the 100-meter hurdles and 53.87 in the 300's. Kori Page Rienbolt had a second-place finish in the 400 in 1:07.11.

Fort Scott's 4x100-meter relay team of Bingesser, Cavin, Breianna Jones and Rienbolt turned in a time of 54.66 to take third place. The 4x400 team also took third as Bingesser, Cavin, Jones and Catherine Sercer combined to run a 4:58.24.

Jolee Sharp picked up a third-place medal in the high jump, tying her season best with a mark of 4-6. She also took fourth in the triple jump at 29 11 1/2".

Daisy Jones placed fourth in the 3,200 meters with a season-best time of 14:32.43. Sercer was fourth in the 1,600 in 6:04.33. Kelsey Parsons matched her season best by clearing seven feet even in pole vault to take fourth.

Fifth-place finishes were turned in by Cassie Ogran in discus at 27-9 3/4 and Carly Hyer in high jump at 4-6. Rienbolt finished sixth in the 200 in 28.44.

The performance by Fort Scott's boys was led by the throwers and the jumpers. Of the Tigers' 19 medals, only four came in running events and two of those were in the same event.

A 1-2-3 finish in high jump helped lead the way. Alex Barner, Brandon Boyd and Jake Clements all cleared six feet. Barner was awarded first because he did so in fewer attempts and Boyd needed one less try to clear it than Clements. Each got half a foot higher than the fourth-place finisher.

Boyd, however, led a three-medal effort in long jump, winning it at 20-4 in his first varsity competition of the season. Chris Archie was fourth at 19-5 1/2 ad Clements was sixth at 18-5 1/2.

Barner and Clements were 1-2 finishers in triple jump. Barner won it with a mark of 40-5 while Clements cleared 39-9 1/2.

Aaron Judy won the javelin by going a season best 150-11 1/2, winning by 7 1/2 feet. Barner, competing in throws for the first time this season, was fourth at 142-11 1/2.

The 4x400-meter relay team ran a season-best 45.38 in picking up Fort Scott's only second-place medal. The names of the individuals was not provided in the report sent to the Tribune Friday night.

Clint Lawrence's season-best 127-10 in discus took third place. Boyd's 23.99 time in the 200 meters was good for fourth.

The 4x400 relay team of Luke Halsey, Jared Harris, Mitchell Stoughton and Archie took fifth with a season-best time of 3:55.50.

Lawrence was fifth in shot put with a mark of 42-2 1/2 while Barner placed sixth at 39-9. Halsey was sixth in the 100 meters in 11.75 with Stoughton in a virtual tie at 11.76. Halsey was also seventh in the 200 in 24.07.

Friday night at Frary Field, the Tigers will host their annual Fort Scott Relays. The first events are slated to begin at 4 p.m
