Council appointee withdraws his name
The Nevada City Council thought they had filled the vacancy on the city council during a special meeting on May 28. Unfortunately, Mike McKinney has withdrawn his name from consideration and the council will start over during tonight's council meeting to find a candidate that three of the four council members can agree on to fill the remaining 10 months Russ Kemm's term.
Russ Kemm sent a letter of resignation to the council during the May 24 meeting.
The council will also be holding the first and second readings of two emergency ordinances during tonight's meeting. One ordinance sets the fees and charges for providing fire suppression services outside the city. The other ordinance approves an intergovernmental agreement that makes Nevada a member of the Tri-State Fire Service Recruitment Alliance.
They will also be holding the second reading of two ordinances. One ordinance will allow any city employee to run for any non-partisan elective office, except for the city council, without being required to resign from their job with the city. The second ordinance removes the parking in the 400 block of West Cherry Street in front of Ernsbarger Heating and Air Conditioning to help with the problem of cars blocking the drives into the business.
Other items on the agenda for tonight include consideration of bids for emergency repair of a backhoe and approval to solicit bids for a fire tanker for the fire department, turnout gear for the fire department and street tax improvements.
The council regularly meets on the first and third Tuesday's of the month at 7 p.m. in the Public Safety Building, 120 S. Ash Street.
