Saturday, June 14, 2008

Fort Scott Police, along with Neosho County Sheriff's Deputies, arrested a Chanute man Wednesday on a Neosho County warrant for attempted first degree murder.

At 11:48 a.m., authorities arrested 33-year-old Alexander D. Curls without incident outside the house at 423 National Ave. He didn't have any weapons on him at the time, police said.

Neosho County supplied the information on his location and FSPD assisted in the serving of the warrant, police said.

Neosho County officials transported him back to Chanute a few hours after he was arrested.

Curl was one of three suspects involved in beating up Derrick Small, 32, of Chanute, according to Neosho County Sheriff's Department. Small was attacked under the Neosho River Bridge on Kansas Highway 39. He was beaten with a baseball bat, investigators said.

Ricky Sallee Jr., 20, and Sherita Reynolds, 25, both of Chanute, have been arrested in connection with the crime.

Curls, Reynolds and Sallee are in custody on charges of attempted first degree murder, aggravated robbery and aggravated kidnapping.

A $500,000 cash only bond was set for each of the three suspects.

Curls was convicted of attempted first-degree murder in 1993. He was released in 2003.
