Red Sox take third in Champion Diamonds tournament
The Nevada Red Sox finished third at the Champion Diamonds 18 and under tournament this past weekend.
The Red Sox lost the tournament opener Saturday afternoon against the St. Louis Eagles, 7-3, but were able to knock off the Bentonville Tigers later in the day, 9-8. Sunday's action gave the Red Sox another chance at the St. Louis Eagles, in which Nevada was able to capitalize, earning a 9-0 win after a five inning one-hitter pitched by Ryan Austin.
Nevada went on to face the top-seeded Princeton Rebels in the tournament's final game and were defeated 6-2, leading to their overall third place finish. The Red Sox next contest will be Tuesday night against Neosho, followed by another game Wednesday night against Oak Grove. Both contests take place at Lyons Stadium.
