Elmer William Sass
Elmer William Sass, 97, of Nevada, passed away on Friday, July 11, 2008, at Barone Alzheimer Care Center, in Nevada, following a lengthy illness. He was born March 8. 1911, in Bloomington, Ill., to Ernest A. Sass and Emily Marie Ploeger Sass. He married Clara Edwards, on March 8, 1946, in Fort Scott, and she preceded him in death on May 2, 2001.
Elmer was born and reared in Illinois but grew up in Kendall, Kan. He moved to this area as a young man and spent the remainder of his life here. He served in the United States Army during World War II in Germany. Elmer made his living as a farmer and also worked at W.F. Norman Corporation. He was a member of the Church of Christ in Nevada.
Survivors include two daughters, Sharon Moyer and Hazel Lawson, both of Nevada; three grandchildren, Sherry Leo, of Nevada, Leona Bastow, of Kosovo, and Miranda Lawson, of Nevada; two great-grandchildren, Tyson Leo and Hailie Leo, both of Nevada; and one brother, Art Sass, of Kansas City, Mo. He was preceded in death by his wife Clara and one sister Elsie Thornburg.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m., on Tuesday, July 15, at the Church of Christ, in Nevada, with pastor Bill Platt officiating. Interment will follow in Newton Burial Park, Nevada. Friends may call now and until the hour of service and the family receives friends from 7 to 8 p.m., on Monday, July 14, at Ferry Funeral Home, Nevada.
