Veteran Nevada Griffon player and assistant coach Mickey Nichol, left, and Griffons board president Jack McDonald, who along with his wife Diane hosted Nichol during his tenure with the Griffons, take in Saturday's game between the Griffons and the SW Elite. Nichol, who played for the Griffons during the 2002-2005 seasons and returned as an assistant coach in 2007, is the only player to have played four seasons with the Griffons. Nichol, who played baseball at Cowley County (Kan.) Community College and Pittsburg State University, is recently married and a history teacher as well as an assistant baseball coach at Bixby High School, Bixby, Okla.

The SW Elite is a summer collegiate baseball team coached by Donny Pennington and Alan Shepherd. The team is mostly made up of recent high school graduates as well as some players with college experience. Former Nevada High Schools players Trent Thompson, Dakota Bright, Cody Thompson, Jordan Kerbs and Jared Alexander are playing for the SW Elite team this summer. They also have two current high school players on their roster, Colby Shepherd, Nevada High School, and Colt Whitsell, El Dorado Springs High School.
