Tuesday, August 5, 2008

The Nevada Griffons have advanced in the NBC World Series with a win over the Casa Grande, Ariz, Cotton Kings.

The Griffons came out swinging right from the start of the game, plating four runs in the top of the very first inning, along with four more in the fifth and two in the sixth. Casa Grande went down quietly in each of the first three innings, only managing four hits until Mike Devito homered to lead off the fourth for the Cotton Kings' only run of the game.

Taylor House and Mark Wyatt led the team with three hits apiece as the Griffons rolled to a 14-1 win in seven innings on Monday morning. Will Feil recorded four RBI in the game, including two on a fifth inning home run.

Nevada tacked on two more homers in the game from Trevor Geist and Daniel Dellasega, and Geist was also hit by a pitch.

Matt Speake picked up the win in the game, pitching six innings and allowing seven hits and just one run. Speake also recorded eight strikeouts with no walks in the 19-hit rout for Nevada.

The Griffons will now advance to game 50 on Friday to face the winner of game 15 between Seguine, Texas, and Beatrice, Neb.
