Mary Ellen Campbell Meister

Mary Ellen Campbell Meister lost her battle with cancer and journed into the spirit world Sept. 3, 2008 at her home.

Mary was born Dec. 20, 1944 in Pryor, Okla., and spent her childhood on a farm in Nevada, Mo., and her adulthood in Overland Park, Kan., Mary graduated from Northeast High School in Kansas City, Mo., in 1962. Mary retired from Hallmark Cards after 27 years as Administrative Assistant for the graphic arts division. Mary was a member of the Sierra Club and a supporter of non-profits for children.

Mary was an enrolled member of the Cherokee Nation of Oklahoma and an advocate of American Indian rights. Mary enjoyed camping and traveling with her family. She was an athlete who played hockey, basketball and bowling in High School and participated in many other sports. Mary was a fan of the Kansas City Royals.

Mary was preceded in death by her husband William A. Meister and her father Walter L. Campbell. She is survived by two loving daughters; Glenda Watt and Dena Campbell; one grandson, John Campbell; two stepchildren, Susan Brown and Chuck Meister and three step-grandchildren. She is also survived by her mother Lucybelle Williams and step-father Ben Williams of Nevada, Mo., two brothers; Steve Campbell (Yvonne) of St. Louis, Mo., and John (Linda) Campbell of Nevada, Mo, 1 sister; Christine (Mark) Molle of Kansas City, Mo., many nieces and nephews and three pugs that she loved.

Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m., on Saturday, Sept. 6, at Ferry Funeral Home, Nevada, with Lavon Lawler officiating. Flowers are welcome. Interment will follow in Marvin Chapel Cemetery, Vernon County, Mo. The family receives friends from noon to 1 p.m., on Saturday prior to the service and friends may call now and until the hour of service at the funeral home.
