Fort Scott junior varsity girls take second at Labette County run

ALTAMONT -- Fort Scott High School's cross country team started its season with the Labette County Invitational Thursday. The Tigers only had one entrant on the varsity level, junior Charlie Sercer.

Sercer finished 28th in the five-kilometer (3.1-mile) varsity boys' race in a time of 19 minutes, 9.12 seconds. Tyler Polshak, a senior from Girard, was the winner in 16:23.90.

Keenan Gregory finished fifth for the Tigers in the junior varsity boys' 3K (1.9-mile) race while Julian Wichert was 21st and Colton Ballou placed 30th. Times were not listed.

Morgan Tourtillott finished in fifth place in the 3K girls' JV race in a time of 19:59.59. Jenna Harper was 10th in 20:53.34 with Katelyn Torres 17th in 21:51.84, Kim Stone 18th in 22:03.93, Leah Cassleman 22nd in 2227.81 and Autumn Owenby 31st in 26:18.93. The Tigers finished second as a team in this division behind Pittsburg, which had six runners place in the top 15.

Fort Scott hosts its annual invitational Thursday on the grounds of the Cigna Insurance (formerly Great West Insurance) building, 2801 S. Horton. The first race will begin at 4 p.m.
