Child dies in weekend tragedy

A Walker family suffered the loss of a child and their home in a weekend fire. Six-month-old Taylor Shaner, was badly burned in the fire Sunday and was transported to Nevada Regional Medical Center and then transferred to Children's Mercy Hospital, Kansas City, where she died from her injuries Monday morning.

Christopher Shaner, Taylor's father, rescued Taylor and another child from the fire. During the rescue, Shaner burned his hands and required treatment.

The Vernon County Sheriff's Office and the State Fire Marshal are investigating the cause of the fire.
