Harold Franklin Carpenter
Harold Franklin Carpenter, 94, Nevada, passed away on Saturday, Jan. 3, 2009, at the Barone Alzheimer's Care Center in Nevada following a brief illness. Harold was born on Sept. 10, 1914, in Oskaloosa, Kan., to Harry Lloyd Carpenter and Jessie Marcella Carpenter. He married Ollie Maurine Smith on Dec. 23, 1939, in Nevada, and she preceded him in death in 1991.
Harold was born in Oskaloosa and reared in Vernon County. He served in the United States Army during World War II in the European Theatre of War. Following the service, he returned to Vernon County where he made his living in a variety of pursuits. He worked many years for the Nevada State Hospital retiring in 1978. He was an avid bingo player and loved to pick blackberries.
Survivors include one daughter, Marcella Wallace, Nevada; three grandchildren, Janet Carpenter, Kansas City, Mo., Justin Wallace, Carthage, Mo., and Jerod Wallace, Clearfield, Utah; and nine great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by two sons, Lloyd Dean Carpenter and Gail L. Carpenter.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m., on Wednesday, Jan. 7, at Ferry Funeral Home, Nevada with Jerod Wallace officiating. Interment will follow in Shiloh Cemetery, Barton County, Mo. Friends may call now and until the hour of service and the family receives friends 7-8 p.m., on Tuesday at the funeral home.
