Charles Michael Payne
Charles Michael Payne, 59, of Fort Scott, died Thursday afternoon, Feb. 12, 2009, at the Mercy Health Center.
He was born Sept. 9, 1949, in Fort Scott, Kan., the son of Elmer Michael "Mike" and Hilda (Roberts) Payne.
Charley was an outdoorsman. He loved to hunt and fish, and hang out with his "old buddies."
He is survived by three sisters; Mary E. Leisure, of Fall River, Kan., Paula Cannon, of Louisburg, Kan., and Teresa Holder, of Stockton, Mo.; two brothers; Joseph Payne, of Prescott, Kan., and Jim Payne, of Van Vleck, Texas, his life companion; Dorothy Ames, and her daughters; Ralea and Theresa, of Lamar, Mo., and many nieces, nephews, cousins, aunts, uncles, and friends. He was preceded in death by his parent, and a brother, Danny Payne.
Funeral services for Charley will be 1 p.m., Wednesday, Feb. 18, at the Konantz-Cheney Funeral Home. Burial will follow at the West Liberty Cemetery. The family suggests memorials to the Charley Payne Memorial Fund, and contributions may be left in the care of the Konantz-Cheney Funeral Home, 15 W. Wall Street, P.O. Box 309, Fort Scott, KS, 66701.
