Floyd Edward Hines Sr.
Floyd Edward Hines Sr., age 74 passed away at 12:32 a.m., on Monday, Feb. 23, 2009, after a brief illness at the Kansas University Medical Center, Kansas City, Kan.
Floyd Hines was born Sept. 13, 1934, to David Lawrence Hines and Clarice Margret Snyder at their rural Harwood, Mo., home. At the age of 14 Floyd accepted Jesus Christ as his Lord and Savior at the Oak Grove Baptist Church. After graduating from El Dorado Springs High School in 1952, Floyd was employed as a card cutter for Hallmark Cards in Kansas City, Mo. Just a year later, due to a tragic train and truck accident involving his father Lawrence, Floyd returned to the family farm located near Harwood. Floyd and his mother Clarice continued the farming operation and established a rural grocery store, Hines Grocery while Lawrence recuperated.
Floyd Edward married Mildred Mae Leonard on Oct. 16, 1955, at the Oak Grove Baptist Church in Harwood community. Five children were born to this union: Floyd Edward Jr., David Allen, Larry William, Teresa Ann, and Steven Lynn. Floyd and Mildred purchased adjoining land and continued the family farm and grocery business.
Floyd enjoyed fishing, hunting and spending time with his children and grandchildren. Floyd was active in the community and served on several local boards. Floyd and Mildred received numerous awards for their farming accomplishments.
Floyd was preceded in death by his parents, Lawrence and Clarice Hines.
Floyd is survived by his wife, Mildred of the home; his five children, Floyd Edward Hines Jr., of Springfield, David Hines, of Harwood, Larry Hines and his wife Deanna, of Wentzville, Teresa Prewitt and her husband Wayne, of Walker, and Steven Hines and his wife Janice, of Nixa; his 10 grandchildren, Shannon Hines and his wife Fallon, of Wentzville, Ashley Molz and her husband Derek, of Lake St. Louis, Allen Hines, of Harwood, Carla Fish and her husband Adam, of Madison, Wis., Rachel Prewitt, of Rolla, Ruth Prewitt, of Maryville, Rebecca, Elizabeth and Thomas Prewitt, of Walker, and Dustin Hines, of Nixa; and one great-granddaughter, Clara Hines, of Wentzville.
Funeral services for Floyd Edward Hines Sr., will be held on Friday, Feb. 27, at 10 a.m., at the Bland-Hackleman Chapel, with the Rev. Brent Bland officiating and video tape from the Rev. John Nichols.
Musical selections will be provided by the Living Faith Mennonite Quartet.
Family visitation will be held on Thursday, Feb. 26, from 6-7 p.m., at the Bland-Hackleman Chapel, El Dorado Springs, Mo.
Interment will be in the El Dorado Springs Cemetery under the direction of the Bland-Hackleman Funeral Home. Pallbearers will be: Floyd Hines Jr., David Hines, Larry Hines, Wayne Prewitt, Steven Hines and Shannon Hines.
Honorary Pallbearers are: Leslie Wallace, Red Bellinghausen, Tom Bloesser, Jim Hardin, Ronald Elliott, Allen Hines, Dustin Hines and Thomas Prewitt.
Memorial donations may be made to the Floyd Hines Agricultural Scholarship Fund and left at the funeral home.
