FSCC baseball drops pair; time changed for today's games
OVERLAND PARK, Kan. -- Fort Scott Community College's baseball team opened Jayhawk Conference-Eastern Division play with a pair of losses to Johnson County here Thursday. The scores were 11-8 and 10-8.
The Greyhounds (4-8) rallied in both games only to come up short. They scored three times in the top of the sixth inning of the opener to get within 10-8 but could not score in the seventh. They also scored three times in the top of the seventh of the nightcap before the Cavaliers (9-3) finally got out of trouble.
FSCC will play host to Highland this afternoon at Lions Field for another conference doubleheader. The first pitch has been pushed back to noon in order to try and beat out an anticipated rain. These games will also serve as the Greyhounds' home opener after bad field conditions and snow caused last weekend's scheduled three-game series with Des Moines Area (Iowa) to be either moved or canceled.
Jason Houston went three for four with three runs batted in and a home run in the first game of Thursday's twin bill. Tyler Zimmerman was two for three and John Leek and Zach Higgins each scored twice.
Houston, Kian Jost and Travis Cruz all hit homers in the second game. Houston was three for four and drove in four runs. Jost was three for four with two RBI and Cruz was three for three, scoring three times. Cullen Baxter and Cody Barnes each had two hits for the Greyhounds.
