Emery to attend USAF Academy
Paul Emery, a senior at College Heights Christian School, Joplin, has been appointed to attend the United States Air Force Academy, in Colorado Springs, Colo., as a member of the class of 2013.
The appointment was awarded to only about 1,500 of the 9,200 applicants. It is equivalent to a scholarship valued at $403,000. He is scheduled to leave in June for basic training and then will begin school in the fall.
Emery's previous accomplishments showed his excellence academically, socially and physically and indicated his potential to meet the demands and challenges of the academy. The qualifications are based on the student's grade-point average, ACT score, character references, service and leadership. The applicant must be nominated by a member of Congress and then appointed by the Air Force Academy Review Board.
He is the son of Ed and Rebecca Emery, of Lamar, and grandson of Helen Faith Emery, of Nevada, and the late Frank Emery. His brother Daniel is attending the Academy as a member of the graduating class of 2011.
