Tiger golfers struggle in season opener
The Nevada Tigers boys' golf team opened their season on Tuesday at Carthage.
The Tigers struggled overall as a team, finishing fourth of the four teams that were in attendance with a team total of 202, but got some strong performances out of a couple of individuals. Joseph Ferry in particular, had a "good round" as he finished out the day with a final score of 44, head coach Brian Leonard said.
Despite participating in his first-ever varsity match, Ferry's score turned out to be the high mark of the day for the Tigers. Kenny Hill and Justin Carter each finished out the day with a final score of 50, followed by Raymond Griffin at 58 and Trevor Landis at 59.
On the JV side, Taylor Handly posted the high mark for the Tigers, finishing the day with a 58.
The Tigers are scheduled to be in action again today as they head to Neosho to play in the Neosho Kick Off Tournament. In that tournament, each school will divide into three, two-man teams and one of those teams will play in individual competition while the other two play best ball and scramble.
