Second annual hunger banquet April 5
Cottey College's Learning Through Serving: Guatemala group will host its second annual Hunger Banquet on Sunday, April 5, 5:30-7:30 p.m. This year, it will be held in the First Christian Church's Fellowship Building at the corner of Austin and Cedar streets.
Forty percent of the people on our planet -- more than 2.5 million -- now live in poverty, struggling to survive on less than $2 a day. A Hunger Banquet allows others to step into the world where food is often scarce and difficult decisions have to be made every day. Guests draw tickets at random that assign them each to either a high-, middle- or low-income tier and receive a corresponding meal. Those attending will learn about global and local hunger and poverty issues. Door prizes will be given away during the course of the evening as well.
Proceeds from the Hunger Banquet will support the Friends of Peace Scholarship to assist Guatemalan girls to attend Cottey. Tickets for the Hunger Banquet are $5 for adults, $2 for students, and are free for children under age 7. Tickets will be available at the door.
