2009 Wings Over Whiteman air show and open house
WHITEMAN AIR FORCE BASE, Mo. -- The American public will once again have an opportunity to view the world's premier weapon system, the B-2 Spirit, the workhorse of the Global War on Terror, the A-10 Thunderbolt II, and a host of military and civilian aircraft during the 2009 Wings Over Whiteman Air Show and Open House June 6. The event is free and will be open to the public from 8 a.m. till 5 p.m., with the opening ceremony beginning at 10:30 a.m.
"I'm pleased to once again invite the public to see firsthand how the men and women of Whiteman AFB and the Air Force fly and fight," said Col. Robert Wheeler, 509th Bomb Wing commander. "These Team Whiteman Airmen play a vital and continuous role in the Global War on Terror, but our Airmen cannot accomplish their mission without the support of the local community. Opening our gates is just one way of saying thanks." In the past, Wings Over Whiteman has included military and civilian aerial acts, static displays and booths showcasing military history and capabilities, and this year will be no exception.
"We're working hard to bring additional top notch-acts to Whiteman, making the 2009 show a must see," said Lt. Col. Steve West, 2009 Wings Over Whiteman director.
