Juanita (English) Kiel
Juanita (English) Kiel, 87, Nevada, passed away Saturday, April 25, 2009, at St. John's Regional Medical Center in Joplin following a brief illness. She was born Sept. 16, 1921, in Fort Worth, Texas, to an American soldier and his French war bride. After their divorce she was left in the care of her foster parents, Sewell and Sarah Adams. She was married in 1939 to Oscar Ernest Kiel, and he preceded her in death June 19, 1995.
Juanita enjoyed sewing, oil painting, traveling out West, and photography. She and her husband sailed, bicycled, and hiked. For their 15th wedding anniversary they climbed the Guadalupe Peak Trail and reached the highest point in Texas. On moving to Nevada, in 1995, she joined St. Paul Lutheran Church and remained an active member until moving to Barone Alzheimer's Care Center in 2007.
Survivors include one son, Dyke Kiel and his wife Becky Brock Kiel, of Nevada; one half-brother, Muriel L. Sulser, of Hermann, Mo.; one half-sister, Linda Sulser, of Eureka, Calif.; nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, foster parents, husband, one half-brother, two half-sisters, and two foster sisters, Alma Adams and Donnie Adams.
Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m., on Thursday, April 30, at St. Paul Lutheran Church, Nevada, with the Rev. Kimberlee A. Osborn officiating. Interment will follow in Newton Burial Park, Nevada.
The family will receive friends at Ferry Funeral Home Wednesday from 6-7 p.m., and friends may call now and until 7 p.m., Wednesday at the funeral home.
