Annual Wax Museum to be presented May 12

Saturday, May 9, 2009

The Wax Museum, a 24-year-old tradition at Nevada Middle School, will be presented next week.

This year's theme centers around presidents and first ladies of the United States.

Students enrolled in Accelerated English, Science and Social Studies have researched 36 presidential personalities and have written a four-page report on each person. In addition, each student will give an oral presentation complete with costumes and props.

The final product of this project is the actual display. Each student will portray his or her character and become a "wax" figure. The character will "come alive" and present a short narrative about the notable person. Wax figures will be as realistic as possible, and students have scoured attics and flea markets for props and costumes to add an authentic flair.

The Wax Museum will be held on Tuesday, May 12, during the day for other students to tour the display. In addition, the class will host an evening performance for parents and the public on Tuesday, May 12, at 6 p.m. It is suggested that everyone be seated by 5:50 p.m., so there will be no disruption during the evening performance.

Teachers involved in this unique project are Angle Landoll, Accelerated Sci-ence; Amy Smith, Accel-erated English; Bin Mc-Cullough, Accelerated Social Studies; and Amy Hertzberg, library media specialist.
