'Tis the season -- for Vacation Bible School

Friday, May 29, 2009

G'day mates! Don't be a bludger (lazy person), come join the fun on the Boomerang Express at the Cornerstone Baptist Church June 22 through June 26 from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. Kidaroos -- blokes and shiela's (boys and girls) from 4 years old to grade 6, go on walkabout to learn about Australia and how much Jesus loves them at the Cornerstone Baptist Church's Vacation Bible School.

Don't worry about tucker (food), Kidaroos will meet at the G'day Cafe at 5:30 p.m. so the oldies (parents) don't have to cook before VBS.

The 5-day event is just one of several such programs slated to take place during June,. including a similar program at Milo Baptist Church, and a Crocodile Dock program at Walker Christian Church, both beginning next week; plus, there's a VBS at Church of the Nazarene, also beginning next week, and a host of other programs planned this summer. Readers can find a full listing of June Bible school opportunities on page 7 of today's edition of the Nevada Daily Mail. During the last week of June and the last week of July, we'll provide a similar listing of Bible schools to be held in July and August, respectively.

Linda McGinnis is the contact person for Cornerstone's the VBS. She said there will be plenty of activities for the Kidaroos during the week.

"Kidaroos will track (ride the Boomerang Express) through Bible Study Outback, Music Opera House, Crafts Crossing, Mission Harbor, Recreation Rock, and Worship Rally Central," McGinnis said. "YES! Jesus can be a part of all these things! We have an exciting week planned -- full of stories, songs, games, food, and friends. Don't miss our 5-day trek toward a personal relationship with Jesus on the Boomerang Express Vacation Bible School."

The Rev. Mel Mabra is the pastor of the Cornerstone Baptist Church, 427 N. Cedar Street, at the corner of Cedar and Hickory.

It is a young church, approximately seven years old and has been at its present location for more than two years.

The church considers its mission to work in the community, not just exist.

"Our members have a mission to work for Jesus in our community," McGinnis said. "Vacation Bible School is an important part of that mission. Last year, about 85 percent of our congregation actively participated in VBS."

The church will have a Boomerang Express float in the Bushwhacker Days parade on June 13. Outback guides will hand out early registration forms and Australian goodies.

For more information or to register early (which is suggested) call Linda McGinnis at (417) 667-4833 or Cornerstone Baptist Church at (417) 321-0455.
