Bushwhacker Days 2009 parade winners announced

The Rinehart Christian Church's construction-themed float was named the Grand Champion entry in the 2009 Bushwhacker Days parade, themed "Nevada -- Fun for All Seasons." Other winners are: Youth category -- first place, Community Christian Church; second place, Step Ahead Learning; and third place, Cornerstone Baptist Church. Adult category -- first place, Vernon County People for Pets; second place, Freewill Baptist Church; and third place, Sedalia Shriners. Business category -- first place, 3M; second place, Evergreen Memorial Chapel; and third place, Nevada Fire Department. Antique category -- first place, Arnold's 1951 Ford F1; second place, Adams' 1930 Model A. Ford Coupe; and third place, Cory's 1926 Model T roadster. Equestrian category -- first place, Mo-Kan Minis; and second place, Fritts Halfinger's Team.

Well i would just like to comment that this years parade and bushwhacker days all together was not satisfactory. The entertainment was just awful and what is up with the square closing down the entertainment before the carnival was over. I took my 8 year old to ride the rides and when that was over i go to watch the band and there isn't one. Next year I'll just save my time and go to Ft. Scott or Lamar.

MOM70: I will have to agree with you on your statements.

All in all the Bushwhacker Days was a waste. It was not at all what I had expected. And to top it off it was only 8pm on Saturday when everything started to close up shop. They did not have anything really worth buying as far as vendors. For an armband $20.00 a night! That was a little steep for people with three or four children each night to go up there and ride. Grant it I do not have three or four children, but it is still the fact that someone has to speak for the people with more than one child and the cost. For the amount of rides and the price I would have to give the whole thing a thumbs down!

Now grant it people this is my opinion and no one elses, I am just stating how I saw this whole festivities. So sad.

I think that without more volunteers to help keep Bushwacker Days going, then some things will fall through the cracks. It takes a lot of preparation for the events and it's hard to get everything taken care of on time. I used to be on the committee so I know. I thought that the entertainment was great. Thursday night it lasted until midnight, Friday the entertainment lasted until almost 11, then there was a street dance that lasted just until midnight. On Saturday, I didn't stay until it was over, so I don't know what time the entertainment got over, but how late do you want to stay up there? 4 in the morning? Do you know how much it costs the get the entertainment? A lot! In my opinion I thought Buswacker Days was a success!

I think the biggest highlight is the car bashing they had friday and saturday

I have become irritated at the craft show. There are no crafts. As someone who did crafts for years, I can tell you, there were only 2 booths at the show that were homemnade crafts. Everything else was bought out of catalogs. Get someone to run it who knows crafts. Get rid of the junk.

You stated on 6-5 you could not attend this years event, I'm glad you found time to get to the square!! Your comments seem to be from someone truly interested in the community and these are the people that keep our town going.

I would like to volunteer, but due to health problems I cannot. Several years ago when I suggested ways to improve the craft show, I was told they were not interested. I have been a craft show promoter and have done craft shows for years.
