Council to set property tax rate today
The Nevada City Council will be holding a public hearing and conducting the first reading of a general ordinance setting the 2009 property tax rate. The proposed rate is $0.6736 per $100 assessed valuation for the city's general fund and $0.20 per $100 assessed valuation for the library fund.
The council also will be holding three public hearings and considering the first reading of the accompanying ordinances for easements for the 2009 street construction projects during tonight's regular council meeting at 7 o'clock, in the Public Safety Building, 120 S. Ash St.
They will also be considering bids from local contractors to replace a picnic shelter in Marmaduke Park that was destroyed when it was hit by a vehicle.
Other items on the agenda include the first reading of an ordinance accepting changes in the bylaws of the city's insurance carrier, which recently changed its name from MARCIT to Midwest Public Risk. The ordinance also approved the city's membership in the insurance pool; an ordinance approving an emergency shelter grant for the Moss House and an ordinance approving a contract with the Vernon County Assessor for conducting property tax assessment for the city of Nevada.
The council will also be considering a resolution naming the city manager, city treasurer and deputy treasurer as signatories for the city's investment accounts.
Other business includes the second reading of an ordinance approving a settlement agreement with AT&T/SBC landline for unpaid business taxes and an ordinance amending the public safety department 2009 budget to include a grant from the Justice Assistance Grant Program.
