Friday, August 7, 2009

The Vernon County Youth Task Force and Nevada Elks Lodge No. 564 now have plans in place for "Kruzin' for Kids," a full day of events for, about and benefitting area youth.

The event, which promoters are planning to bring back year after year, will feature a car show, a battle of the bands, inflatables from maccaroo Gyms, booths and a silent auction.

Festivities begin at 9 a.m., at the lodge, 510 N. Centennial, Nevada, when car show registration also is set to begin.

Car show registration will be from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m., with the judging taking place from noon to 2 p.m. A $100 cash prize and a trophy will be presented for Best in Show. Plaques also will be presented to first, second and third place winners in all categories. The first 100 who register also will receive a dash plaque.

Next on the day's lineup is the Battle of the Bands. Bands will register from noon to 1 p.m., with the battle beginning at 1 p.m. Battle of the Bands awards are scheduled at 6 p.m.; but the time will depend upon when the performances are actually complete.

Grand prize for the Battle of the Bands is a professional recording session at Facet Sound Recording Studio in Joplin, to include three hours of recording mixing and editing to produce a CD. Second place will receive a $100 gift certificate, and third place will receive a $50 gift certificate. Gift certificates are from Palen Music, Joplin.

The event is free to spectators and concessions will be available. For more information, call Tina at (660) 424-3471 or Lisa at (417) 381-1022.
