Galactic Wars: Images of a fiery battle in the sky on display at PEO gallery
"I felt the presence of something more powerful than I or friend or foe, when I placed the digital card of the images of fireworks onto my computer to see what they looked like and I did not see the images that I was expecting...no, I saw these angels and fairies and mystic creatures that were God-like and I felt He sent them to me to present to you. He meant for me to share the joy of these creations through a talent that is indeed a kiss from God (awww but such a obligatory responsibility of a weighted nature)...a blessing bestowed upon me and why? I am so unworthy!"
So says Linda Teeter, in her artists statement explaining her work, on display in the PEO Foundation Gallery inside the Haidee and Allen Wild Center for the Arts at Cottey College, now through mid-September.
Teeter describes the cumulative work not individual pieces but a story of a great galactic war. It's an exhibit to be experienced, not just viewed, she implies.
Teeter, a native of Kansas City, Kan., later moved to Columbus, Kan., where she opened CREATIONS, where she taught art to children, then on to Carl Junction, Mo., where she now resides. She is a graduate of Pittsburg State University, and holds bachelor's degrees in English, with minors in psychology and art, and secondary education.
She began showing her art in 2003.
Teeter plans to share the journey of this project with visitors during a reception slated for 6-8 p.m., Aug. 27, at the gallery -- an event to be catered by culinary art students from Nevada Regional Technical Center.
The message she hopes the work will convey, she explains in these words: "Why me? I will never really know, but after releasing these images to the populous I realized it was meant to end up in a public space to be used as a alternative meditation room and that is my hope, that one day someone will purchase this series in its entirety to complete my mission; which is to share the hope for all of His creations that we can do better and He is there to guide us back on track!"
