NHS cross country competes in Fort Scott

The Nevada High School cross country team traveled to Fort Scott Thursday and showed a few strong performances. Senior Todd Brier finished fifth in the varsity boys' 5,000 meter run with a time of 18 minutes, 55 seconds while Alex Giunta took 15th, Casey Long came in 17th and Josh Newman took 18th. Dalton Shunkwiler and Brandon Norton finished 14th and 24th, respectively, in the JV boys' 2.5-mile race, while Tayrin Schmitt took second in the JV girls' 2.5-mile event. --Steve Brier/Special to the Herald-Tribune
