Two face unrelated charges of sex crimes against children
David L. Woods, 42, Sheldon, has been arrested on two counts of child molestation, a class B felony, and two counts of statutory sodomy, an unclassified felony. A preliminary hearing is set for 1:30 p.m., Oct. 22, in front of Judge Neal Quitno.
Woods remained at large for nearly two years after a warrant was issued for his arrest. A warrant for Woods arrest was issued in November 2007 and was served Sept. 11, 2009. The charges stem from an incident in April 2006.
Some of the information in the case is sealed and unavailable for public view.
In an unrelated case, Stephen Hart, 59, Sheldon, is going to trial before Judge James Bickel on child molestation charges Thursday and the trial is scheduled to continue on Friday. Hart is facing two charges of child molestation stemming from an incident in December 2006.
Hart's attorney, Charles R. Rhoades, has a motion before the court to prevent Vernon County Prosecutor Lynn Ewing III from using a video deposition by the victims in the trial, citing a defendant's right to face their accusers. Some of the information in this case also is sealed and unavailable for public view to protect the interests of the children involved.
