Lady Tiger volleyball falls to Carl Junction at home

Thursday, September 17, 2009

The Nevada High School varsity volleyball team suffered their second loss of the season as they hosted the Carl Junction Lady Bulldogs Tuesday night.

Carl Junction needed an extra point to come out on top in the second set, but was ultimately able to take the match by the final scores of 25-23 and 26-24.

In the first set, the two teams battled back and forth with neither team taking more than a one-point lead through most of the first half of the set. After the score was tied at 10-10, Carl Junction was able to get a side out that started a six-point run, giving them a 16-10 lead.

Nevada quickly got back within two at 14-16 before starting another back-and-forth battle. Carl Junction was finally able to put the opener away after getting a side out to break a 23-23 tie and serving the final two points to win 25-23.

The second and final set was much the same as the two teams went back and forth before Carl Junction was able to take advantage of a couple of small runs to work their way to a 21-15 lead. That didn't last long, however, as Cassidy Lowery served five quick points to get the Lady Tigers back within two at 22-20.

The Lady Tigers eventually regained the lead at 24-23, but Carl Junction quickly turned the tables once again, earning a side out before serving the final two points to win 26-24.

"We had times when we looked really good," Lady Tigers head coach Becky Lowery said. "We just have got to eliminate unforced errors. We gave away too many points on missed serves and silly unforced errors."

The Lady Tigers did not come out of Tuesday's match satisfied, but Lowery said that there is a measure of pride to be had in their performance.

"Carl Junction is a very good team and we played them a very close game," Lowery said " We are proud of how close we played them tonight but we know we are not satisfied with that. We have a few things to work out to reach our goal of not just staying with the good teams but beating them."

That loss dropped the Lady Tigers' record to 4-2 on the season and their next action is scheduled for tonight as they are set to host Archie on Parents' Night.
