On My Own to raise funds with Oct. 3 casino night

Wednesday, September 30, 2009

On My Own, Inc. is planning an evening of food and fun in support of a very good cause. The organization's second annual "Five Star Casino Night" is set for Saturday, Oct. 3, at the Elks Bingo Hall on Centennial Boulevard in Nevada. Promoters say, "It's a sure bet that you'll have a good time and support a very good cause that evening."

Dinner begins at 6, with other events following. Games begin at 7:30 p.m.

Great food, a celebrity auction and casino games offering some great prizes await the participants. Those who don't choose to take part in the casino games can come just for dinner; dinner tickets are $20 per person and include a start up pack of casino chips. Become a table sponsor and receive a discount on the tickets. Dinner tickets are now on sale at the On My Own offices, 428 E. Highland, Nevada. Casino games will include blackjack, craps, slots and Texas Hold-Em.

Tickets for a drawing for a $100 bill are also available at $1 each or 6 for $5, with all proceeds from this drawing going to Amanda Smith for expenses she will incur during an upcoming lung transplant.

Proceeds from the Five Star Casino Night will be used to purchase adaptive devices and home health equipment needed by disabled residents. "These devices provide the needed assistance to allow the disabled recipient to maintain an independent lifestyle. Our recipients are among the large number of deserving individuals who are unable to afford the devices themselves and have no other resource for obtaining the equipment," promoters said.

Last year, the fundraising efforts netted $5,000, which purchased devices or equipment for more than 106 area residents. This is the fifth year On My Own, Inc. has dedicated the proceeds from its fundraiser to this project. The success of previous years has generated more and more requests for the program. This year's goal is $5,000.

On My Own is open 8 a.m. to noon and 12:30 to 4 p.m., Monday through Friday. For more information, call the office at (417) 667-7007 or toll-free at (800) 362-8852.
