Lady Tigers win season finale
HARRISONVILLE, Mo. --The Nevada Lady Tigers tennis team finished the regular season with another strong performance in dual competition as they took on Harrisonville High School Tuesday.
Harrisonville struggled right from the start of the match and never really recovered as the Lady Tigers dominated throughout the day. After seeing the Lady Tigers cruise through most of the contest, Harrisonville was unable to pick up a win in any of the nine varsity matches, falling by a final score of 9-0.
Daven Smith and Leah Creasy each had to work to earn their victories, but eventually came out on top of Gracie Wilson and Maddie Kusmec by the final scores of 8-3 and 8-4, respectively. Katlyn Short showed a dominant performance in the No. 3 singles match, taking down Victoria Bostic by a final score of 8-1.
The No. 4 singles match was much the same as the third as the Lady Tigers were still able to come out on top fairly easily when Ashley McKinley defeated Jessica Strickland, 8-2.
Katie Brauer and Ashley Magsam kept the momentum going for the Lady Tigers as they recorded the fifth and sixth victories of the day for Nevada, making quick work of Brittany Brooks and Madison Allen by 8-2 final scores.
Harrisonville fared slightly better in doubles competition Short and Smith needed an extra set to pick up their victory, but Nevada still ultimately came out on top in all three matches.
Harrisonville had slightly better luck in JV competition, but was still only able to pick up one victory as Talor Croy defeated Magsam in the No. 2 singles match. Regan Kimbrough, Lauren Phillips and Brandi Perrin all earned JV singles wins for the Lady Tigers while both of Nevada's JV doubles teams picked up wins as well.
"We ended up 8-5, not bad," Lady Tigers head coach Samantha Short said. "I hope next year it will be even better."
The Lady Tigers are now scheduled to head into postseason play at the distric tournament tomorrow in Kansas City, Mo.
