Four candidates file for Nevada City Council

As of 5 p.m., Tuesday, four candidates had filed for the April 6, 2010, election for the Nevada City Council seat currently held by Mayor Mike Hutchens, a three-year term.

Debbie Bossaller, 741 E. Maple and Myron R. Damon, 508 Godfrey Lane, Sonya Tumm, W. Atlantic St., and James McKenzie 341 N. Washington, all filed Tuesday afternoon, prior to the 5 p.m. deadline.

A primary election will be held in February to narrow the field to two candidates.

I sure hope the newspaper does a better job of introducing these candidates to the public than they did in the last election. The only known candidiate would be former councilman James McKenzie and we know the mess he left us last time. I can't imagine we would want him and Brian Leonard on the same council again.

I am so sick and tired of hearing of the alleged mess that was left. Let me suggest that you go to city hall and request financial records and then actually PROVE that there was a financial mess. Then do some investigating on what was happening when Kemm, Meyers, and Gillette were on council and try to figure our why all of those employees were laid off. Did it really have to do with finances or did a lot of employees need to go in order to get rid of the 3 or 4 employees that these guys wanted gone? If the city was in such a financial mess, why did this council go almost one year without having a financial report presented to them on the public agenda. Oh, that's right you can't see those old agendas on the website anymore because Harlan Moore took them down, again!!! While you're at it, maybe you can find out why Kemm resigned. He was elected by the citizens and he owed them a reason for resigning and this newspaper should have found out why he just up and quit.

Nevadan you have made negative comments on each article about the board election. I have one question. How come you don't run for council and change what you think is wrong. It doesn't take much to complain but it takes a lot to actually make a difference. The only way to do this is get off the sideline and get envolved. Every person in Nevada should be at the council meetings and voice their concerns. The council is here to serve you not the other way around. Get envolved. Just my thoughts. Keep seeking the truth.

bornandraisedhere: your short memory is showing, cover it up. Financial mess? How about he money that was missing from the golf course and the water department? Remember that? And who was responsible for Craig "I can't get out of town fast enough" Hubler? Wasn't he a McKenzie product? He and Brian Leonard will make a unique combo...More money for parks, less money for economic development. Hey, James! How's that Industrial Park coming along???

bornandraisedhere...stop complaining...you've done nothing but take from Nevada...whiners and complainers will ruin this community...it's easy to critize...it's admirable to step out and make the tough decisions. Kemm, Meyers and Gillette stepped out and at great personal anguish and finanical loss - made the decision to SAVE jobs by laying off a few. It was NOT personal...it was business...sad, but had to be done. The people laid off, found other good jobs (some have been able to return)... it was a unanimous vote on that council to make those cuts...why do you just blame 3 of them...I think thou hast another motive....
