Kraft wants council election recount
Joe Kraft has filed for a recount of the Nov. 3 city council election through his attorney, Jeff Feuquay. Kraft came in third behind Sherry Steward, the winner of the second vacant seat, by only two votes -- 413 to 411; Brian Leonard came in first with 523 votes. Feuquay said the statute allowed a recount when the candidates were separated by less than 1 percent of the votes.
"All Joe wants to do is verify the results of the election," Feuquay said. "The statute is clear that a recount can be requested when the difference is less than 1 percent of the votes."
Tammi Beach, Vernon County Clerk, said she wasn't sure how much the recount would cost, or who would pay for it.
"We'll probably have four election workers, they would be the only expense, because he has requested a hand recount, but I can't say for sure," Beach said. "It all depends on what the judge orders."
Feuquay said he didn't have a prediction of the result of the recount.
"If I could predict the outcome there would be no need for a recount," Feuquay said.
A time for the hearing has not been set as of press time.
