Swans return to Walton Lake

Saturday, December 26, 2009
In what has become a local harbinger of winter to come the trumpeter swans have returned to Nevada. Two adults and two cygnets, juveniles, rumored to be in the area for a couple of weeks were photographed feeding complacently on Izaac Walton Lake in Walton Park on Monday afternoon, Dec. 21. Trumpeter Swans are the largest of North American waterfowl and as a migratory species enjoy state and federal protection in Missouri. --Rusty Murry/Herald-Tribune
