Fire destroys Vernon County home

A fire destroyed a home on East Stockmen Road Tuesday night.

Nevada firefighters responded to a request for mutual aid from Milo firefighters at 9:30 p.m. with two trucks and four firefighters.

According to Captain Bill Thornton the Nevada firefighters were first on the scene and controlled the fire then turned the scene over to members of the Milo department, who had arrived on the scene by that time.

Thornton gave a rough estimate of the loss to the structure and contents of $40,000.
