Local seniors may be eligible for prescription drug help
"Today, prescription drugs are a part of every day life for many older adults in our community -- much more so than 10 years ago," says Irene Holt, Care Manager. On average, seniors could be taking 5 prescription pills a day or more, not counting over-thecounter drugs. And the cost of paying for multiple prescriptions a month can quickly add up, even if an individual has prescription drug insurance. "Dealing with these monthly costs and understanding your options can be overwhelming. Still, everyone deserves to know how they can possible lower their monthly prescription drug costs -- and that's one thing Care Connection for Aging Services can help with."
According to national data from the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services, there are over 214 seniors in Vernon County who could save up to $3,600 a year on their prescription drugs, whether or not they have any insurance.
The simplest way to learn if you can save money on prescription drugs is to call Care Connection for Aging Services, the local Area Agency on Aging. Care Connection has been serving Vernon County for over 36 years. "It's our job to help seniors and their families understand their options and to navigate the system with as little hassle as possible," says Ms. Holt.
