Tumm and McKenzie to face off in April council election
A total of 257 voters, including those 78 Nevadans who cast absentee ballots, turned out for the Nevada City Council primary election on Tuesday.
When all was said and done, James McKenzie emerged as the leader with 156 votes. Sonya Tumm garnered 111 votes, followed by Debbie Bossaller with 102 votes and Myron Damon gleaned 94 votes.
Tumm and McKenzie will face each other in the April election.
"Voter turnout was really, really low. At noon we had very few," said Vernon County Clerk Tammy Beach.
Each of the 257 voters -- 5.68 percent of the 4,524 registered voters -- were to vote for two candidates.
The election carried a price tag of $5,900, putting the cost per voter at $22.96.
In the last Nevada City Council primary, held in November, 381 of the 4,457 registered voters at the time -- 8.56 percent, decided the outcome.
